| CSD 1 Sunshine Duration Sensor
The CSD 1 is intended for the routine measurement of sunshine duration.
Sunshine duration, as defined by the WMO, is the time interval in which
the direct solar radiation component, the Sun, exceeds an irradiance level
of 120 W/m2.
The unique design of the
CSD 1 incorporates three photo-diodes of equal sensitivity, of which
one photo-diode continuously measures the global sky irradiance (direct
sun + diffuse sky irradiance) at all times. The remaining two photo-diodes
measure a portion of the diffuse sky field only. The built-in electronics
of the CSD 1 subtracts the acquired diffuse sky signal level from the
global, to derive the direct solar irradiance signal level. The CSD
1 offers two output signal possibilities; a logic high/low output level
(> 120 W/m2 = high logic), or a second milli-volt output signal level,
that is proportional to the derived direct solar irradiance signal.
The CSD 1 is intended to be used in conjunction with a data acquisition
system, or (integrating) voltmeter.
